This is the poster for The killers Fourth album. From what is available to see the poster is very limited on information. The image it self is the front cover of the digi pac. A lot of artisits use the same image from their digi pack for the poster. This technique does work as it gives the audience a taste of what the album will look like. It also also helps the audience in a way as it gives them the general image of the album so they know what they are looking for when they come to buy the album.
The text is all centered in the middle of the poster in straight lines. This way the text is very easy to read. The font size of the band's name is the biggest of all the other font as it is the band the poster is for so the editor want's the name to stand out and catch the audience's eye. The font also matches the back goriund image. The font of the album is very basic and the same font is used for the rest of the text on the picture. Except the album name is in black where as everything else is in white. This was the album name will stand out from the poster just like the Band's name.
The poster has all the generic codes and conventions such as the record label, web address for the band so the audience can get more access and also some information about the tracks which will be on the album. On the other hand the poster is missing the release date or any information for if it has already been released. This is an important feature for which an album poster should have so the audience know when they can buy it.
Poster no.2 Jessie J- Who You Are
The colour choice is black, white and gold. All very meaningful colours which you wouldn't associate with the pop genre of music. Gold is normally associated with wealth and the colour is used in the font of the artist's name. This can mean that she is wealthy but it also can imply that she is important. The title of the album is just in below the artist's name, but the font is very thin and white. I feel that it is rather difficult to read.
Below the image there is a black box which has all the relevant information about the the new album. The poster has all the conventions which The Killer's poster has. There is information about the tracks in the album as well as other artist's involved. There is the artist web address for the audience but this one is different to The killers web address as part of the web address is in gold. This is much more eye catching than the one on the Killers poster. The poster also has the record labels in the bottom corners. Finally just like The Killer all the text is in a central column in the middle of the page. By having all the information in the center of the page it makes it easier for the audience to read the text.
Album poster no.3 Green day- American Idiot
This is the poster for Green Day's album American Idiot. This is probably my favourite album poster I have seen as it has just about everything a person would want to see on a poster. The title of the band is in an empty space in the top left corner. This works really well as it isn't blocking any of the image. The font of the band's name is the same as the font on the digipack. This shows continuity through both products, Instead of having the title of the album, instead it is the title of one of the songs which the editor is trying to promote as well. This may be because the image is taken from the music video for the song. This is a good technique as it shows a live performance and this way the audience can feel a sense of exclusivity.Different to the Jessie J's poster the band member is gazing up the the the sky not making eye contact with the reader. The member has a look in his eyes with the look of mystery and suspicion. On the other hand it could also be that the member had an uplifting of power which made him look upwards instead of looking at the audience during their performance. By doing this the singer will cause the audience to be more persuaded to buy their album or at least consider to buy it. Another thing about this image is that Andrew Goodwin's thoery is correct. Bille Joe Armstrong (lead singer) is the only one from the band in the image. Therefor this may suggest that he is the star image.
Unlike the other album poster's which I have analysed, Green Day uses a higher volume of text. In some cases an increased amount of text could be an overload of information for the audience to take in, but in this case the text is presented a clear format with words such as "free" or "no.1" which is eye catching which will therefor maintain the audience's interest. Just like the other posters i have analysed, Green Day's poster follows the common codes and conventions by having web address's for the artist and the record label, the logo of the record label. It also includes information of the tracks on the album. The use of different colours makes the text easier toread as well making the text stay fresh in the audiences head,. Finally there is an image of the album cover underneath all the text. This gives the audience extra information about what the album will look like.
