PRELIMINARY

Above is my preliminary task which I made back in September 2014. We had the option wherether to create this task in Imovie or Premiere Pro. I choose to do it in Imovie as it was a package which I was familiar with and we were given a specific amount of time to film and create the task so I thought it would be a better idea to go with Imovie over premiere pro. I decided to recreate 1 minute of Bastille's music video "Pompeii" I believe that I didn't do a bad job of recreating the video considering this was the first time I have ever created a video.

The short clip consisted of all the features which the official video had, such ass: lip synncing and camera angels. The lip syncing i found was very difficult to line up what the visuals is saying and what the audio is saying. Due to my lack of knowledge on how to match up the lip syncingI found this task rather difficult. I do feel though that my skills have come a long way since making this video.

Here is my finished music video. Firstly I feel that my creative skills have developed so much by creating my official music video. I felt that i didn't put much creativeness into the preliminary task but this was probably beecause it was a copy whereas my music video was my own. It was mine and Jessie's own idea's which meant that there was alot more creative thinking going into the music video to get the besst narrative for the audience. I believe that my editing skills have come a long way with discovering new transitions such "as fade to black" or "film dissolve". You can see from my pelimanry task that my editing skills have improved greatly within my final product.
Other area's which I feel that I have improved on are:

  • Attention to mise-en-scene
  • working with sound
  • It skills (premiere)
  • story boarding
  • editing
  • lip syncing
  • team work
  • organisation skills
  • Keeping to deadlines
I feel that I have come a long way since the preliminary task and I am really happy with my finished products and the skills that I have either learned or improved on.

Evaluation question 1

In what ways does your media produce use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
When planning and designing our music video we wanted to follow the forms and conventions of similar music videos within the genre of Rock music. Forms is another word for codes. Codes are a system of signs which create meaning through the text. Once these codes create meaning and there a seen within a similar of the same texts

Before beginning to plan the music video we researched into music videos by bands such as FooFighters, Green day and Sum 41. These artists all fall in the genre of our music video so if we wanted our video to belong to the genre of rock we will need to have similar conventions from media products in that genre to help us develop our video and make it fall in to the genre. This was the main video which our video was mainly influenced from. We thought that the narrative was strong and fluent through out the video.

Evaluation question 2

How effective is the combination of your main products and the ancillary texts?

Evaluation question 3

What have you learned from audience feedback?
I have learnered that Audience feedback is the most important asset to creating a media product. Compared to AS level, feedback is alot more important in A2 level. All the stages of the making of the products including the planning, construction and evaluation have all been influenced by the audience feedback. Below is a video of me talking about what I have learned from audience feedback.

Evaluation question 4

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Audience feedback of final video

I showed the video to a room full of students. The turn out was great and the feedback was fantastic. The feedback was what I had hoped to hear so it was wonderful to hear it from the audience. Overall I think the video has been very successful and it does appeal to my target audience.

Finished products

Music video

Poster
Here is my final poster. I haven't changed much from the final  draft except, I have moved the red line over to the right a small fraction as it was too close to the text on the left. I have also removed "presents" from the title as it made the poster feel like a film poster also now I think it doesn't need it. Finally I added a drop shadow to both "GREEN DAY" and "american idiot".  This had a positive effect as it made the text stand out from the poster and more eye catching. Overall I am very happy with the finished product.

Digi Pack

Here is my finished digi pack. I have printed it out and put it into a cd case. It was a pain to get to correct measurements so that all the panels fitted in and what a result it was. It really does look like an actual cd and I am so happy with what I have produced.

The only thing which I have changed from my previous draft is that on the back I have moved the parental advisory label on top of the barcode instead of beside. I felt that this was this was needed as the black and white of the label and the barcode collided too much next together.

In order to see if my digi pack fits in well and looks like other digi packs I put it in with a mix of other digi packs. Here is what it looked like. I feel the it looks right and it fits into place. I am really pleased with all of my finished products.
